Late rally lifts Crawdads to victory in home opener

Hickory left fielder Jairo Beras picked the perfect time for his first hit in Thursday’s game against the Asheville Tourists.

Beras’ single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Crawdads to a 6-5 victory against the Tourists in the new renovated L.P. Frans Stadium.

$16.8 million to be reinvested in community colleges

Governor Pat McCrory made his second stop in Catawba County this week with a tour alongside middle school students of the Manufacturing Solutions Center (MSC) and the simulated hospital at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC).

McCrory’s visit came with an announcement that will impact the entire North Carolina Community College System.
