Katherine â€śKittyâ€ť Barnes announced Wednesday that she will seek another term as a Catawba County Commissioner.
In her 28 years of public service, Barnes has been a member of both the Catawba County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education. She has been a strong advocate for Catawba County citizens at the regional, state and federal levels of government.

Evelyn Sigmon Teague, 78 of Hickory, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Abernathy Laurels, Newton. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Evelyn Sigmon Teague.
Twenty-Fifth District Court Judge Robert A. Mullinax, Jr. of Newton has filed with the North Carolina State Board of Elections in Raleigh to seek re-election to his District Court judgeship when voters go to the polls during the 2014 election cycle.
The local native has served on the bench of the judicial district serving Catawba, Burke and Caldwell counties since 2009.

Scotty Ray Shook, age 50, of Claremont, passed away on Feb. 18, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. The Shook family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Conover.
