Scott Reilly to run for District Attorney

Veteran Newton attorney Scott Reilly announced from the steps of the 1924 Courthouse on Wednesday that he is running in the upcoming election to unseat 25th District Attorney James C. “Jay” Gaither, Jr.

During his tenure, Reilly has worked as a prosecutor, assistant district attorney and a defense attorney.

James C. “Jay” Gaither, Jr., current District Attorney of the 25th Prosecutorial District, was elected in November of 2002 and re-elected in 2006 and 2010.

Gaither confirmed to the O-N-E on Wednesday that he will be running for re-election. Filing begins Feb. 10.

Three athletes — Maiden's Alex White, Newton-Conover's Nick Baker and St. Stephens' Alex Roarke — officially signed their National Letters of Intent with Colleges and Universities during the day.
