Veteran Newton attorney Scott Reilly announced from the steps of the 1924 Courthouse on Wednesday that he is running in the upcoming election to unseat 25th District Attorney James C. â€śJayâ€ť Gaither, Jr.
During his tenure, Reilly has worked as a prosecutor, assistant district attorney and a defense attorney.
James C. â€śJayâ€ť Gaither, Jr., current District Attorney of the 25th Prosecutorial District, was elected in November of 2002 and re-elected in 2006 and 2010.
Gaither confirmed to the O-N-E on Wednesday that he will be running for re-election. Filing begins Feb. 10.
Several athletes in Catawba County made a splash on Wednesday for National Signing Day.
Three athletes â€”Â Maiden's Alex White, Newton-Conover's Nick Baker and St. Stephens' Alex Roarke â€” officially signed their National Letters of Intent with Colleges and Universities during the day.
