Fleeta Eckard Cook, age 86, of Hickory, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Cook family.
The city of Conover approved a new public/private partnership at Mondayâ€™s city council meeting that will bring 45,000-square feet of retail development to the northernmost point of Conover Station. The plan lines up exactly with the cityâ€™s original master plan for the space.
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners approved a Grant of Easement on Monday during the first of its bi-monthly meetings.
The Board unanimously approved the grant to Piedmont Natural Gas for the purpose of installing a natural gas pipeline across a 2.37-acre tract located on Highway 70.
The Newton-Conover wrestling team defended home turf on Saturday at the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A tournament.
The host Red Devils won the event by tallying 224.5 total points to second-place West Caldwellâ€™s 159 points
