Moore Brothers Band playing Conover benefit concert

Three local boys have gotten in touch with their soulful side. They travel the country performing bluegrass music as The Moore Brothers Band.

The bandy consists of 15-year-old Jacob Moore, who is the banjo, mandalin and fiddle player; 11-year-old Isaac Moore, who plays guitar; and 19-year-old Daniel Perry, who plays the doghouse bass (double bass) and sings vocals.

Catawba man arrested in Denver vehicle theft

A Catawba man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a truck.

Stephen Daniel Sherrill, 27, of 1610 Loftin Drive in Catawba, was charged with two felony counts of Possession of Stolen Goods.

Man severly wounded following New Year's explosion

A man was seriously injured early New Year's Day when a black powder homemade cannon exploded in his face.

Lincoln County deputies responded to a residence in the 2300 block of Keener Road at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday where paramedics and firefighters were on the scene treating the patient.

Sources close to the Observer News Enterprise say that former Maiden head football coach Tom Brown will be named the next gridiron leader at East Burke High School.

Brown's name is expected to be presented by East Burke officials before the Burke County Board of Education on Monday for approval.

Newton-Conover boys, Maiden girls win rivalry games

The Newton-Conover boys basketball team surged late in the first half and exploded in the second half on their way to a rivalry win against Maiden on Friday night.

Meanwhile, in girls action, Maiden picked up its sixth victory of the season against Newton-Conover.
