Bliss’ five 3-pointers pace Fred T. Foard in win

Based on his 17-point performance Tuesday against rival St. Stephens, Foard’s Trey Bliss had the appropriate first name.

The junior guard made five 3-pointers in a 60-53 victory on the road against St. Stephens.

Downtown Newton was filled with remembrance and song on Monday morning as the Catawba County branch of the NAACP hosted a march in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“It’s a beautiful day to have a march,” said Catawba County NAACP President Jerry McCombs. “The sun was shining, and it was a success.”

Mobile meth lab is discovered in Maiden

A Maiden Police Officer discovered components of a mobile meth lab in the passenger area of a vehicle during a traffic stop just after midnight Saturday on Water Plant Road.

Red Devils win titles at Little Indian Classic

The Newton-Conover Middle School wrestling team represented strong during Saturday’s Little Indian Classic at St. Stephens High School.

Red Devil wrestlers Devin Chambers, Barrett Harkins, Francisco Tapia and C.J. Blanton all won first place in their respective weight classes at the event.
