Jack Adkins, 74, of Hickory, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at his residence. The Adkins family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home and Cremations in Conover.

Hickory Crawdads pitcher C.J. Edwards was named the Texas Rangers minor league pitcher of the month on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Edwards is 1-1 on the mound this month with a 1.93 ERA (five earned runs in 23.1 innings).
