Rudisill's 5 RBIs helps Hickory end losing skid

Hickory Post 48 overcame an early deficit on the road Thursday to end a three-game losing skid with a 12-11 victory against Waynesville.

Post 48 (4-3, 3-2) trailed 4-0 early, but scored three runs in the third inning and six in the sixth inning to pull ahead and go on to win.

Aaron Rudisill led Hickory with two hits, including a home run, and dorve in five RBIs.

Foard's Shubert named Gatorade Player of the Year

Fred T. Foard pitcher Lexi Shubert added another impressive mark to her prep softball career on Thursday.

The graduated senior was named the Gatorade North Carolina Softball Player of the Year.

She is the first Catawba County softball player to win the honor.

Hunter gets the call; Harvey selected by the Orioles

Hunter Harvey had to show the same composure, if not more, on Thursday night during the 2013 MLB Draft that he showed in his four years on the mound at Bandys High School

The Trojan pitcher completed his long journey to his future in professional baseball after being selected with the No. 22 overall pick by the Baltimore Orioles in Thursday's draft.

Joseph “Joe” Smith, 62, of Wilmington Island, Savannah, Ga., died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at his residence. The family will receive friends Friday June 7, from 1 until 4 p.m. at J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 Sharon Amity Rd, Charlotte.

Benfield graduates from Air Force basic

Air Force Airman Jaylen N. Benfield graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Egan convicted of child sex charges

Bryan Jonathan Egan, Jr, 25, of Denver, was convicted of three counts of Felony  Attempted First Degree Statutory Rape, Felony  First Degree Kidnapping and Felony  Indecent Liberties with a Child Wednesday in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.

Local man killed in Conover wreck

An elderly Conover man is dead and two women were taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center after an accident on County Home Road Wednesday.

Hickory Post 48 drops its third-straight contest

Hickory Post 48 trailed Hendersonville 8-5 in the top of the ninth inning with one out before lightening delayed the game at Henkel-Alley Field.

The game was eventually called at around 11:15 p.m. after rain and more lightening entered the area.

William “Speedy” Edmondson, 59, of Claremont, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his residence.  The Edmondson family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover.
