NEWTON — Rob Bliss, an assistant principal and head boys varsity basketball coach at Fred T. Foard High School, has been nominated as a National LifeChanger of the Year for the 2013-14 school year.

Clark Tire honors N-CHS science teacher

David Schouweiler, a science teacher at Newton-Conover High School, was recently awarded the “Rubber Meets the Road” Award in recognition for his hard work in the classroom.

The award is given to one local teacher in the Newton-Conover City School district, who is in need of a car makeover.

Robert Lee “Bob” Bolliger, 90, of Conover passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at Conover Nursing Home & Rehabilitation. The Bolliger family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover.

10 students nominated for service academies

Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10) announced 10 young men and women from North Carolina's 10th Congressional District have been nominated to our nation's military service academies for the Class of 2018.

Among those nominated are two Catawba County students — Newton-Conover High School’s Rachael Hamm and Maiden High School’s Andrew Beard.

Longtime middle school coach Rudisill passes away

A longtime coach in the area died earlier this week.

Ronald “Rudy” Rudisill passed away on Tuesday at the age of 63.

Rudisill taught and coached at Catawba and Holbrook middle schools for 11 years, but perhaps his greatest impact was felt at Tuttle Middle School, where he taught for 20 years.
