Claremont is excited to announce its new Police Chief, Deputy Chief Gary Bost, to assume the post vacated by longtime Chief Gerald Tolbert.

Teacher arrested for peeping

A Hickory teacher made his first appearance in court at the Catawba County Justice Center on Monday for two counts of Felony Secret Peeping.

Scott William Grantham, 50, of 1371 5th St. NE in Hickory was arrested on Friday, May 3 at Arndt Middle School for the two felony charges. Grantham was an English as Second Language  teacher at the school.

Rapper arrested in Conover

The headline act for the Conover Tavern was arrested Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express in Conover for drug related offenses.

Rap artist, Sean P. Joseph from Atlanta Ga., was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver marijuana, simple assault and Possession of Scheduled III Controlled substance.

Maiden (19-3) vs. Draughn (15-9), 6 p.m.

SCHEDULE CHANGES: Tournaments postponed

A number of different prep sports events from Monday were postponed due to rain in the area.

Baseball and softball tournaments in the Catawba Valley 2A were moved to Tuesday.

Ricki Kuhn's home run pushes Maiden to title game

Sophomore Ricki Kuhn’s two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning lifted Maiden to a 3-2 victory against Bunker Hill in the semifinals of the CVAC softball tournament on Friday at MHS.

The Lady Blue Devils (19-3) face Draughn in the tournament final on Monday in a rematch of last week’s 8-1 loss by Maiden in its season finale in Valdese.

Shannon Scott Dishman, 42 of Conover, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at his residence. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden.

Tigers top Pioneers, advance to NWC softball final

The Fred T. Foard softball team advanced to the Northwestern 3A/4A tournament final with a 3-1 victory against Watauga on Thursday.

The Lady Tigers (20-3) meet Alexander Central (24-1) today at 6 p.m. in the Northwestern 3A/4A championship game at ACHS.
