Bryan Jonathan Egan, Jr, 25, of Denver, was convicted of three counts of Felony Attempted First Degree Statutory Rape, Felony First Degree Kidnapping and Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child Wednesday in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.
An elderly Conover man is dead and two women were taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center after an accident on County Home Road Wednesday.

Hickory Post 48 trailed Hendersonville 8-5 in the top of the ninth inning with one out before lightening delayed the game at Henkel-Alley Field.
The game was eventually called at around 11:15 p.m. after rain and more lightening entered the area.
William “Speedy” Edmondson, 59, of Claremont, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his residence. The Edmondson family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover.
Tuesday night the Newton City Council approved a fiscal budget for next year that will require customers to pay more for their electricity and garbage service.
Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed robbery around 1:15 a.m. on May 24 at 3407 Dreamy Ln. in Claremont.
According to officials, the two female residents at the home said that a black male and female wearing masks and carrying shotguns came into their home and robbed them. The victims reported the two suspects took $550, business keys and a cell phone.

The Bandys senior pitcher is likely to hear his named called that night during the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The event is being televised at 6 p.m. on the MLB Network.
The 2013-2014 Season celebrates The Green Room Community Theatre’s 27th year with all new shows including musicals, mysteries and madcap comedies. All productions will be in the Old Post Office Playhouse on the main stage in the McCreary Theatre or in the smaller, more intimate Black Box Theatre. The Playhouse is located in historic downtown Newton at 10 South Main Ave.
