After working for other veterinary offices in Lincoln County, Donald Whitener decided to open his own practice. Conover Veterinary Hospital opened in 1988 with Whitener and one assistant receptionist.

Twenty five years later Whitener employs 14 full- and part-time employees and has gone through three renovations to grow his business.

Late penalty kick lifts Bears past Blue Devils

September 11, 2013

Bunker Hill used a late penalty kick by Javier Chavez to pick up its first conference victory, 3-2, on Wednesday at home against Maiden.

Chavez’s scoring shot came after Bunker Hill’s Richard Xiong collided just in front of the net with Maiden goalkeeper Arley Mendonza, who received a yellow card on the play.

Family domestic case leads to attempted murder arrest

A late morning family argument led to two attempted murder arrests Wednesday afternoon by the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid said Sherry Rohney, of 6570 Old Shelby Road, was shot by her 16 year-old son, Daniel Rohney sometime this morning. According to Reid,
