Panthers lose another close one, fall to Bills

The Carolina Panthers' close losses are becoming more and more painful.

In the latest, they gave up a last-second touchdown to the Buffalo Bills in a 24-23 defeat Sunday.

"This is like going to the dentist and getting several teeth pulled without any anesthesia, laughing gas, nothing," said Panthers receiver Steve Smith. "It's tough and it's sickening."

Special teams mistakes cost Newton-Conover in loss

Special teams issues plagued Newton-Conover on Friday night against Freedom.

Those mistakes led to the Red Devils falling behind in the first half en route to a 45-32 loss to the Patriots at Gurley Stadium.

McRee tosses 6 touchdowns in Blue Devils' 63-0 win

Jake McRee threw six touchdown passes in a 63-0 home rout by Maiden against St. Stephens.

McRee tossed four of his scores to tight end Alex White — two in each half.

Cougars hand Trojans their second-straight defeat

The Cougars’ Devante Clark rushed for a pair of scores in the second half, leading Alexander Central to its first win of the 2013.

Devan Cox led Bandys (2-2) with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Carr in the fourth quarter.

Mae Irene Woodring, 91, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Trinity Ridge Nursing Home in Hickory. The Woodring family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Cremations in Newton.

Maiden woman charged in Denver ministry break-in

A Catawba County woman has been charged in a break-in at East Lincoln Christian Ministries according to Lincoln County authorities, who said Thursday they were close to arresting a second person.
