As the summer ends, families from across the state can have one last hooray at the 67th annual North Carolina Apple Festival, held annually over Labor Day Weekend in Hendersonville. It has been Western North Carolina’s Premier Family Festival for over 60 years.

Famed watercolorist to exhibit at arts council

The paintings of Dean Mitchell, an internationally known figurative artist, will be on exhibit at the Burke Arts Council for six weeks from Aug.6 through Sept.13.

The exhibition, titled “Traces of Humanity,” contains more than 30 original works. Among them are watercolors, oils,acrylics, sketches and etchings documenting the artist’s 33-year career.

according to the District Attorney’s
Office.

Hornets top Colts, finish regular season undefeated

NEWTON — The Catawba County Hornets capped an undefeated regular season at home on Saturday with a 32-12 win against the Carolina Colts at Westside Jaycee Park.

Aaron Rainey led the Hornets (12-0) with 42 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.

CHARLOTTE — Down 21 points early in the second half against Gardner-Webb, the UNC-Charlotte football team was able to change its fate on Saturday.

The 49ers scored 29 unanswered points in a 53-51 come-from-behind win against the Bulldogs on Saturday.
