Against an unfamiliar opponent in Canon-McMillan (Pa.), one run was the difference for the Fred T. Foard softball team on Thursday.
Addie Bolick connected with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to center field, helping the Lady Tigers defeat the Lady Big Macs, 1-0.

After 40 total years of coaching, Tommy Edwards decided it was time to hang up the whistle.
Edwards announced his retirement on Tuesday as the women’s basketball coach at Catawba Valley Community College.
Edwards hopes he achieved one goal in his long tenure as coach.
Behind 25 points from Byron Mullens and 21 points from Gerald Henderson, the Charlotte Bobcats continued their roll at home on Wednesday.
The Bobcats defeated the Toronto Raptors 107-101, notching their third-straight victory at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Frank Lee Bailey, Sr., 84, of Sherrill Ford went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 after a courageous fight with cancer. Burke Mortuary in Maiden is serving the Bailey Family.
Two men were arrested Monday night around 10 p.m. after a traffic stop resulted in drug charges.
Discovery High School’s “Discombobulated Delegation” took home top honors for winning the seventh annual “Red Hot Spelling Bee” for the Newton Conover Education Foundation.
In all, 22 teams competed Tuesday night. The event was held in the Newton-Conover High School Gymnasium and emceed by Michael Willard from WXRC/WNNC radio.
