Two men were arrested for meth charges around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
Newton Police Captain Tim Hayes said officers originally visited the address, 728 E 18th Street, Newton because of information on a subject. The officers received information on a subject that was believed to be staying at the address.

“Old School” and “New School” collided on the basketball court, Thursday at Bandys High School not only for bragging rights, but to help raise funds and awareness.

Avis Hager Upchurch, 91, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 at Hock Family Pavilion. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, April 1, at Clements Funeral Chapel with Rev. Nathan Whittman officiating.
Former Newton-Conover assistant coach Mike Natoli was named the head coach at West Iredell on Thursday.
Natoli takes over the Warriors from Mark Weyker, who spent the past 26 seasons as coach. Weyker led the program to a 124-163 record during his tenure.
From 2004-09, Natoli was an assistant at NCHS under former Red Devils coach Nick Bazzle.

The Bunker Hill softball team bounced back from a tough loss to Maiden earlier this week by winning 8-4 against rival Bandys on Thursday.
Courtney Adsit and Anna Williams led the Lady Bears (5-7, 5-2) in the victory.

William Morgan Barnett, Jr., 81, passed away March 27, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. The Barnett family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home in Hickory.
