Newton joins forces to keep connecting Thread Trail

Lenoir-Rhyne Bears board a bus bound for Alabama

The Lenoir-Rhyne football team (13-1) received a big send off on Wednesday morning as they boarded a bus bound for Florence, Ala. to compete in the NCAA Div. II National Championship Game against Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.

Players and coaches were greated by the many fans in attendance for the event, which was held outside of Moretz Stadium in the parking lot.

Roy Bradford Little, 81, of Statesville, (formerly of Newton) passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. The Little family is in the care of Robert F. Bennett, Funeral Service Licensee, 828-465-2111.

William A. Newell, age 93, longtime resident of Abernethy Laurels, Newton, passed recently. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Newell family.

Pair of guns found in shooting suspect's home

CONOVER — A shotgun and a .38-special were found inside the home of a Sunday morning shooting suspect after a search of his home.

Twenty-six year old Mee See, who appeared in court for the first time Monday, is charged with attempted murder of his girlfriend, Crystal Lor, 19, of Conover.

Thread Trail plan tries to tie county together

Carolina Thread Trail is creating a system that will show the benefits of greenways and trails across the states of North and South Carolina.

Bears advance to school’s fourth national title game

HICKORY — The Lenoir-Rhyne football team gained all 451 of its yards on the ground, rushing its way into the NCAA Div. II Championship game with a 42-14 victory over West Chester on Saturday at Moretz Stadium.

The Bears (13-1) reach their first-ever Div. II championship game, having made the NAIA final in 1959, 1960 and 1962.
