After a “long, full life” in which he fathered a family that “changes the world for the better,” Newton resident, Paul J. Miller, 92, joined his beloved wife Lillian on April 3. Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton is serving the Miller family.
Burke Mortuary, located in Maiden and Newton, is known for their locally-owned service to the community, but recently the mortuary has added an extra touch to help families during their grieving period.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigators operating on a tip from the public discovered a meth operation at a home on Coral Drive north of Lincolnton and two Maiden residents were arrested.
Newton-Conover City Schools will have a new Superintendent starting July 1.
Dr. David Stegall was named the new Superintendent of Newton-Conover City Schools at the Board of Education meeting on Monday night.
Newton Police along with Catawba County EMS and Newton-Conover Rescue Squad responded to a call at 417 N Deal Ave. in Newton on Friday afternoon where one person was found dead and another person incapacitated. The O-N-E will have additional information once it is released by Newton P.D.
Carolyn Somers Leagon, 75, of Newton, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at her home after a period of declining health. The Leagon family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Cremations in Newton.

Monday was a good day to be a golfer at Newton-Conover High School.
The Red Devils took team honors during the 21st Catawba County championships, while Newton-Conover’s Trey Burton earned medalist honors at the event.

A two-out, two-run homer by left fielder Nick Williams in the bottom of the ninth inning helped give the Hickory Crawdads a 5-4 victory against Greenville on Monday.
The win by the 'Dads over the Drive is their second of the season.
The Crawdads hit three home runs in Monday night’s game, including bombs by second baseman Ryan Rua, third baseman Joey Gallo and Williams.
