April 15th
Burnette Davis Blanton, 69 of Conover, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center. The Blanton Family is in the care of Robert F. Bennett, Funeral Service Licensee.
Over the weekend, boys across Catawba County came together at the 2013 Boy Scout Lakeland District Spring Camporee that was hosted by Dr. Bob Hart and his wife, Becky, at historic Hart Square in western Catawba County.

April 12th
Behind the play of junior catcher Meggie Gentle, the Bandys softball team continued to keep pace near the top of the Catawba Valley 2A standings with an 8-1 home victory against Newton-Conover on Friday.
The Kannapolis Intimidators scored 10 runs on 10 hits to defeat the Hickory Crawdads 10-2 in minor league baseball action on Friday.
Jason Coats, Michael Johnson and Patrick Palmeiro each drove in two runs to lead the Intimidators (6-3).
Jordan Akins paced Hickory (3-6) with one RBI and one run scored on a 1-for-4 day at the plate.

Thunderstorms cleared just in time for Bandys High School to hold its annual Agriculture Day. The fact filled day began at 9 a.m. as Future Farmers of America students and Bandys teachers navigated eight elementary schools through each of the stations.
A single car accident Thursday night just before 8 p.m., severely damaged an occupied residence at 3083 Buffalo Shoals Road, Maiden.
There were no injuries reported.
Bandys Fire Department officials said the occupants of the house were sitting in the room where the Honda passenger car struck.
April 11th
The St. Stephens tennis team honored its five senior members on Thursday and continued its roll this season in the process.
The Indians swept rival Fred T. Foard in singles and doubles play to come away with a 9-0 conference win at home.
Saint improves to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in NWC play, while Fred T. Foard drops to 1-9 overall and 0-4 in conference tennis matches.
