The St. Stephens tennis team honored its five senior members on Thursday and continued its roll this season in the process.
The Indians swept rival Fred T. Foard in singles and doubles play to come away with a 9-0 conference win at home.
Saint improves to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in NWC play, while Fred T. Foard drops to 1-9 overall and 0-4 in conference tennis matches.

St. Stephens High School has narrowed its list of varsity football head coaching candidates to two names after a total of 51 persons applied for the Indians job.

The Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame officially announced its Class of 2013 on Wednesday.
Among the names being inducted on May 13 include the late Bobby Warlick, Joe Harold Rhyne, Tommy Edwards, Tisha England and Lisa Witherspoon.
With the induction of these five individuals to the county’s sports hall, the total number of persons inducted totals 58 people.
Three Newton-Conover athletes made their college choices official on Wednesday.
Among those who committed include a pair of senior football players, including quarterback Kevin Cline signing with Carson-Newman and fullback/linebacker Matt Coulter inking with Wingate.
Red Devils senior boys soccer player Jake LaFrancis also signed to compete this fall at Catawba College.

Kaedyn Dominic Hopper died April 7, 2013. A Graveside Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Jenkins Funeral Home Cemetery Garden of Angles with Rev. Reggie Longcrier officiating.
Newton Fire Department responded to a gas leak on Wednesday morning on North Ashe Avenue in Newton.
Several roads were closed, including 21st through 26 Street and Northwest Boulevard through Main Street.
Workers and residents were evacuated from the area for about an hour while crews worked to close off the gas line and secure the area.
