The Carolina Panthers are turning over the keys to their offense to the son of an NFL Hall of Fame coach.

Mike Shula was promoted to offensive coordinator on Friday, the team announced.

The 47-year-old Shula replaces Rob Chudzinski, who stepped down Jan. 10 to take the Cleveland Browns head coaching position.

Hornets prepare to face Rage in Florida on Saturday

The Catawba County Hornets semi-pro football team takes the national stage on Saturday.

The Hornets compete in the 2013 National Bowl Weekend in Deltona, Florida.

BREAKING: Basketball games postponed tonight

Thursday night's prep basketball games between Fred T. Foard and Watauga have been postponed.

The games between the Tigers and Pioneers, which were the only prep contests slated on Thursday, have been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 30.

This is the second time that the Northwestern 3A/4A basketball match up between Foard and Watauga has been postponed.

Pfeiffer University’s persistent point guard has the Lady Falcons soaring higher than ever this season.

The 5-foot-6 senior credits a newfound team chemistry to most of her team’s success this season.

Plans revealed for Sherrills Ford library

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners has approved architectural plans for the new Sherrills Ford Branch Library.

The 10,000-sq.-ft. facility to be erected on 2.5 acres near the intersection of N.C. 150 and Sherrills Ford Road, is expected to be completed in 2014. Commissioners have set aside $2.9 million over multiple fiscal years to make it happen.

Wet weather factors into increase of accidents

A rear-end collision occurred just before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Northwest Boulevard and 7th Street in Newton. A pick-up truck struck a passenger car from behind.

The driver of the passenger car was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The rainy conditions did factor into the accident.
