Art unveiled at city hall

Thursday the city of Conover staff displayed eight drawings by local students in city hall.

The works, which depicted what they loved the most about Conover, ranged in themes from the local farmers market to the library.

William Raymond “W.R.” Lutz, Jr., 88, of Settlemyre Bridge Road, Newton, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory following a brief illness. Two Conover men convicted

Two Conover men were convicted of separate sexual offenses Thursday in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.

Robert Daniel Deese, 34, of Conover, was convicted of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child (3 counts).
The defendant was sentenced to no less than 15 months and no more than 18 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction.

Pearson retires after 40 years of county service

Polly Pearson recently retired from Catawba County Social Services after 40 years of helping people cope with life’s challenges. Originally hired in June of 1972, she taught people the daily skills needed for a successful life.

Cousins helping establish Maiden swim tradition

A pair of Cousins are helping to establish a new tradition for future swimmers at Maiden High School.

Seniors Christian Holdren and Alex Williams are helping set a new bar for the Blue Devil swim program despite each having only swam at the school for two years.

SIGNING DAY: County seniors ink with colleges

Seniors athletes across Catawba County made their college decisions official on Wednesday during National Signing Day.

Students from four area high schools — Bandys, Hickory, Maiden and Newton-Conover — took place in mock signings to finalize their collegiate and athletic choices.
