Jeremy Kenneth Duncan, 35 of Claremont, passed away Feb. 8, 2013, at his residence. The Duncan family is in the care of Robert F. Bennett, Funeral Service Licensee.

School gives back to teens

Friday, Feb. 8, three students and principal Tim Woody from Bandys High School took a field trip to the mall. While the field trip seemed unlike any other conventional field trip, the students weren’t going to buy any, they were dropping off jeans.

BREAKING: Bunting steps down as Indians coach

Chris Bunting is stepping down after just one season as St. Stephens football coach. His last day at the school is Feb. 19.

Bunting, 32, is leaving his head coaching post with the Indians to take the defensive coordinator position at AAAA Clover High School (S.C.) under newly hired coach Chad Smith.

Red Devils win eighth-straight CVAC wrestling title

The Newton-Conover wrestling team won its eighth consecutive CVAC wrestling tournament championship on Saturday at Maiden High School.

Seven Red Devils took home individual titles, including Austin Klutz, Coleman Carter, Franklin Wepner, Nathan Reitzel, Rolen Benson, Colin Minor and Ah’Ron Hope.

Cougars edge Tigers for NWC wrestling title

Alexander Central ended Fred T. Foard's two-year reign as Northwestern 3A/4A conference wrestling tournament champions on Saturday.

Trailing by 16.5 points entering the finals, Cougar wrestlers won five of their eight championship matches to help pull ahead of the Tigers in the final standings.

Bucs baseball tries to repeat 2012 success

Coming off of its first College World Series appearance in school history, the Catawba Valley Community College baseball team is looking for more of the same in 2013.

The Bucs enter the season ranked No. 6 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll after not being ranked at all this time a season ago.
