Three days shy of turning 30 years old, Carolina Panthers cornerback Chris Gamble received some career-changing news.

The Panthers announced Friday they have released the ninth-year defensive back — the franchise's all-time leader in interceptions (27) and passes defended (94).

Durant, Thunder strike down Bobcats, 116-94

It wasn't nearly as bad the result a few months ago, but the Oklahoma City once again had the Charlotte Bobcats' number on Friday.

Trailing by a point after the first quarter, the Thunder outscored the Bobcats 88-65 in the final three quarters of play, eventually picking up a 116-94 victory at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Indians overcome cold start, blank Blue Devils

Surrounded by the chilly weather of early March, the St. Stephens girls soccer team got off to a cold start against Mooresville on Thursday, but certainly made up for it quickly.

The Lady Indians (4-0-0) scored three goals in the final 6:36 of the first half, going on to win 4-1 against the Lady Blue Devils in the 14th Annual Lady Indians Memorial Classic soccer tournament.

BREAKING: Bobcats' Ramon Sessions out 2-4 weeks

Charlotte Bobcats guard Ramon Session will be out 2-4 weeks after suffering a second degree MCL sprain in his left knee, the team announced on Thursday.

Sessions suffered the knee injury during Wednesday night's 99-78 loss to Brooklyn. He scored nine points in 20 minutes against the Nets and left the court under his own control.

Martin “Marty” Elkana Hollar, 48, of Conover, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover with Rev. Scott Johnson and Rev. Anton Lagoutine officiating.

Jeff Bentley, director of JEBCC, said the center has seen a lot of growth each year.

“It’s quite a challenge for us — a lot of people have misconceptions about the facility,” Bentley said. “We are 95 percent self-supporting — we raise those funds.”
