A Newton man was arrested early Thursday morning after a traffic stop yielded a large amount of marijuana.
Thirty-five year old Mark Anthony Farley, of 303 South Derby Ave., was stopped for speeding in his 2001 Chrysler Sebring at 2:20 a.m. on the 400 block of U.S. 70 SE.
For the second time this season, the Newton-Conover boys basketball earned bragging rights against rival Hickory.
Behind 23 points from Josh Ramseur, the Red Devils marched to a 73-49 victory against the Red Tornadoes at home on Friday night.
NEWTON â€” Fred T. Foard senior soccer player Ashley Jolly signed with the University of Tennessee on Friday.
