Hickory High running back Jahiz Linebarger was presented with the first Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award of the season on Tuesday.
Linebarger, who also plays defensive back for the Red Tornadoes, helped rally Hickory to a 25-20 road victory against Statesville this past Friday.
He rushed for over 110 yards with two touchdowns against Statesville â€” part of 25 unanswered points in the contest.
Maiden resident and angler Hank Cherry is the Bassmaster Elite Series Rookie of the Year.
â€śRookie of the year is a great foundation for my career,â€ť Cherry said. â€śThe guys in this rookie class are all great anglers, and it was a real accomplishment to come out on top. Iâ€™m going to build from here and someday get an Angler of the Year title.â€ť

Ray H. Boston, 91, of Hickory died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Trinity Ridge in Hickory. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Maria Trinidad Delgado, 94, of Newton died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Abernethy Laurels of Newton, N.C. The funeral will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Jenkins Funeral Home chapel.
