A strong thuderstorm left a wake of destruction across much of Catawba County late Wednesday afternoon.
High winds paired with lightning damaged several residences and blocked roads with most of the damage occurring in Hickory and the eastern portion of the county.

Marshall Ray Isenhour, age 72, of Claremont passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Isenhour family.
