Alexander Central ended Fred T. Foard's two-year reign as Northwestern 3A/4A conference wrestling tournament champions on Saturday.
Trailing by 16.5 points entering the finals, Cougar wrestlers won five of their eight championship matches to help pull ahead of the Tigers in the final standings.

Wayne Edward Benfield, 80, of Conover died on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Memorials may be made to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Hickory.

Two Conover men were convicted of separate sexual offenses Thursday in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.
Robert Daniel Deese, 34, of Conover, was convicted of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child (3 counts).
The defendant was sentenced to no less than 15 months and no more than 18 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction.
