The Hickory boys basketball team took advantage of St. Stephensâ€™ struggles to advance to Fridayâ€™s Northwestern 3A/4A title game with a 74-53 victory against the Indians at David Craft Gymnasium on Tuesday.
The Red Tornadoes meet Foard in Fridayâ€™s tournament final at 8 p.m. at Hickory High School.
The Fred T. Foard boys basketball team advanced to the Northwestern 3A/4A tournament final on Tuesday with a 61-43 win against Watauga at David Craft Gymnasium.
The top-seeded Tigers (21-4) advance to Fridayâ€™s final where they will meet the No. 2 seed Hickory Red Tornadoes (21-5) in a rematch of this past Fridayâ€™s 62-59 win by Foard at Copas Gymnasium.

Julia Beatrice Campbell Beal, 87, of Newton passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Beal family.

Fire fighters from three counties battled a woods fire Monday that charred over ten acres of Little Mountain in eastern Catawba County.
The original call, just before noon, was for Bandys Fire Department to check for a report of “smoke on the mountain” off Tower Road.
