Teammates on the Newton-Conover girls basketball team for three years, Samiya Pitts and Kadesha Gibbs have continued their bond at the collegiate level.
Pitts and Gibbs are both playing for the Catawba Valley Community College women’s basketball program this season.

In its program's historic 100th game, the Catawba Valley Community College women's basketball team came away victorious.
The 14th-ranked Lady Bucs knocked off Guilford Tech 64-44 on Thursday at the Tarlton Complex.

Tied atop the CVAC girls basketball standings, something had to give Thursday in Catawba when Bandys hosted East Burke.
The Lady Trojans scored 23 points in the fourth quarter, helping them come away with a 63-55 victory and remain perfect in Catawba Valley 2A play.
The Fred T. Foard wrestling team moved to 31-1 overall and 3-0 in Northwestern 3A/4A competition with a 63-7 victory against Watauga on Thursday.

The Catawba County Sheriffs department is asking for public assistance in identifying an armed robbery suspect.
The Sun House convenience store located at 1901 U.S. 70 SW in Hickory was held up at gunpoint Monday night a few minutes after 10:30 p.m. according to sheriff records.
The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), the nation’s leading organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship through community colleges, has named Gary Muller with Catawba Valley Community College among its first-ever NACCE Fellows in Community Outreach.
Business minds, owners and interested citizens joined the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Jan. 23 for its annual Legislative Issues Luncheon. The luncheon was served to it’s full room of guests at the Crowne Plaza in Hickory.
