HICKORY â The Hickory Metro Sports Commission has announced the pairings for the 27th annual Catawba Valley Classic high school basketball tournament
The event will be held Friday, Dec. 27-28 and 30, 2013. The tournament will feature the boy's and girl's teams from eight area high schools competing in the three day event.
CHARLOTTE â A Hickory man is sticking to his musical roots, thanks to the Carolina Panthers.
Jason Meyer is one of 25 members in the Carolina Panthersâ Purrcussion drumline.
The 27-year-old comes from a strong musical lineage.
A Newton attorney and vice-chair of the Catawba County Board of Commissioners, C. Randall âRandyâ Isenhower, has been appointed by Philip E. Berger, President Pro Tempore of the North Carolina General Assembly, to serve on the board of directors of the Golden LEAF (Long-Term Economic Advancement ) Foundation.
The St. Stephens boys basketball team built an early lead on Friday on its way to a 57-38 victory against Maiden in Hickory.

Kristi Michelle Hall Fulbright, age 35, of Maiden passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at CMC-Lincoln. Memorials may be made to Claremont Elementary School, 3384 E. Main Street, Claremont, NC 28610.
James Alan Jana, age 52, of Claremont, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Jana at a later date in Ohio.
