The officer arrives to find that the instigators have left and the disruption was minor.

After talking with the store manager, she returns to her police car and files a description of the incident.

Local program in 3 counties helping brighten holidays

This season, holiday shoppers in Catawba, Burke and Caldwell counties can give cheer to area seniors by participating in the Be a Santa to a Senior program.

The program — run by the local Home Instead Senior Care office in partnership with area retailers, volunteers and members of the community — helps ensure isolated seniors receive gifts and companionship during the holidays.

Red Devil boys, Hickory girls both winners Tuesday

The Newton-Conover boys basketball team earned a 12-point victory against rival Hickory on the basketball court on Tuesday, 85-73.

Tuesday also marked the head coaching debut of Andy Poplin for Hickory. Poplin replaced Lavell Hall after last season.
