Going Green could possibly be a new motto for Catawba County. Just last week, Catawba County Board of Commissioners approved the rezoning of 31 acres on Sigmon Dairy Farm Road for a new solar farm for Straya Solar.

Judge Kincaid Retires

Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Timothy S. Kincaid of Newton has told the Observer-News-Enterprise he will retire from the judicial system after more than 28 years as a judge in North Carolina Judicial District 25B, which is Catawba County, when his current term ends in December 2014.

Thomas “Bubba” Lee Killian 60 of Maiden died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Hickory.

Elizabeth Bumgarner, 71, of Conover died on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
