Fast Track transforms ER visits

Wynn some, lose some

A woman who was reported missing Oct. 7 and recently located by Maiden Police is now being held at the Catawba County Detention Center.

Police say Jennifer Leigh Wynn, 36, of Maiden was responsible for a theft from her former employer, Royal Enterprises, operator of the Maiden Shell convenience store.

GAME OF THE WEEK: Blue Devils, Wolves collide

Despite its first difficult setback last week against East Lincoln, the Maiden football team attempts to bounce back tonight when it hosts Lincolnton.

The Blue Devils (9-1, 5-1) were held in check on offense last week in a 42-0 loss against the Mustangs.

Pemleton leads Trojans to win in last JV game

NEWTON — Bandys junior varsity quarterback Jarrett Pemleton scored three touchdowns, leading the Trojans past Newton-Conover on Thursday night at Gurley Stadium.

Horrific crash on N.C. 16

November 7, 2013

Police and emergency workers worked to remove two men from a mangled SUV after they collided with a truck at the intersection of N.C. 16 and Burris Road in northeastern Newton.

Neighbors told the Observer News Enterprise that the SUV appeared to have pulled out in front of the asphalt tanker truck, the driver of which was not reported as injured.

Controversial call costs Red Devils in playoff loss

LENOIR — The Newton-Conover boys soccer team owned the first half of Wednesday’s 2A playoff game against West Caldwell.

The Warriors, though, scored late to advance.
