Feed the hungry by clicking 'like'

There are 22,370 individuals living at or below the poverty level in Catawba County.

Of those, 2,134 are 65 years and older and 7,923 are children.

Catawba County’s local branch of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, a Feeding America food bank, works with partner agencies in the county to provide food to individuals like these in need.

One on O-N-E: What are you most thankful for?

Trojans overcome foul trouble, Vikings in victory

CATAWBA — Overcoming some early foul trouble, the Bandys girls basketball team defeated South Iredell, 66-38, in its home opener on Tuesday.

With the win, the Lady Trojans improve to 2-0 on the season.

Early run propels Trojans in win versus Vikings

CATAWBA — The Bandys boys basketball team used a 14-0 run in the second round to propel themselves past South Iredell en route to a 66-47 home victory on Tuesday.

BREAKING: Schools systems on three-hour delay

All three school systems are on a three-hour delay for Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The delays come from a ice storm, which is supposed to move overnight from Monday to Tuesday.

Victory for N-CMS goes beyond the court

NEWTON — The Newton-Conover Middle School gym exploded with the sound of excited children on Monday afternoon as they cheered for their teachers in a charity basketball game against Conover Police Department.

The N-CMS staff won the game against the officers of Conover PD, but the event was about much more than the game.

‘Thankful’ kids are awarded for their artwork

CONOVER — With the spirit of Thanksgiving in mind, the city of Conover announced the winners of its annual art contest for the second-straight year on Monday.

The contest, which was held from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1, asked fourth-grade students “What in Conover Are We Thankful For?”
