Trio of golfers are tied atop the GHKC leaderboard

CONOVER — Eighty-one golfers started the three-day battle on Friday to attempt to master the 6,871-yard modified Champions Course at Rock Barn.

Three of those golfers — Bernhard Langer, Dick Mast and Anders Foresbrand — are tied for the lead heading into Saturday's second round of the 11th Greater Hickory Kia Classic.

Blue Devils best Trojans in 61st gridiron classic

CATAWBA — The Maiden and Bandys football teams played in yet another classic on Friday night at Butler Stadium.

The Blue Devils (8-0, 4-0) took a 21-10 first half lead and held off a late second half charge by the Trojans to come away with a 21-19 SD-7 victory.
