CHARLOTTE â€”Â In front of 16,283 young men and women, the Charlotte Bobcats picked up a 110-84 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers in preseason NBA action early Thursday morning.
A 21-year-old Lenoir-Rhyne baseball player was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a train early Thursday morning about a mile from campus.
Sources have identified the victim as Ryan Hamner. A witness has said he appeared to be asleep on the tracks.
No obituaries were reported at press time
Professional golfer Rocco Mediate, above, was a member of one of 56 teams during Pro-Am action at the Greater Hickory Kia Classic on Wednesday. The 50-year-old Mediate is making his first appearance at the Classic later this weekend. For full results from Wednesday's Pro-Ams, see Sports on Page 10.
