Ron Rivera will return as coach of the Carolina Panthers next season following his team's strong finish.
Panthers spokesman Charlie Dayton said Rivera met with owner Jerry Richardson Saturday morning and was informed that he will return for a third season. Rivera has two years on his current contract.
"He's going about normal preparations for next season," Dayton said.

Cleveland's Kyrie Irving scored 33 points on Friday against the Charlotte Bobcats, but none were more important than his final two.
With one second left, Irving connected on a 12-foot jumper over top of Charlotte's Jeffery Taylor, lifting the Cavaliers to a 106-104 victory against the Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena.
