The Freedom boys basketball team knocked off previously unbeaten Fred T. Foard on Friday with a 65-57 win in Morganton.
Defense helped the Patriots (8-2), who scored 18 points off of Tiger turnovers in Friday's game.
Jeron Hemphill scored a game-high 23 points to lead Freedom in the victory.

David Lee had 23 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 11 assists, Stephen Curry set a career high with eight 3-pointers and the Golden State Warriors extended the Charlotte Bobcats' losing streak to 14 games with a 115-100 victory on Friday night.
Klay Thompson added 20 points while Carl Landry and Draymond Green had 11 apiece for the Warriors, who have won eight of 10.
On Dec. 20, the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division with the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations served a search warrant at the residence of 2615 12th Ave. Drive NE in Conover as a result of an ongoing drug investigation.

All seven Catawba County high schools have changed athletic directors after the calendar year.
Three county athletic directors, including Chad Smith (Fred T. Foard), Dennis Whitener (St. Stephens) and Randy Lowman (Bandys), are leaving their respective schools effective Dec. 31.
Behind 18 points from Kerigan Farley and 13 points from Zach Houston, the St. Stephens boys basketball team continue its impressive start to the season with a 52-38 victory against Bandys on Thursday in Catawba.
With the non-conference, the Indians improve to 9-0 on the season. Bandys falls to 2-5 on the year.
As a salesperson, Link Marlow wants to know everything about the product he sells.

With the school year reaching the halfway mark, the Rotary Club of Newton-Conover is doing it’s best to keep students fed during the weekends. The Rotary Club feeds students through The Back Pack Program. The club worked with the Department of Social Services to “adopt” Startown Elementary School in Newton.
