Pastor jailed for ‘indecent liberties’

Newton police confirmed a local pastor was arrested Monday and charged with indecent liberties with a juvenile following a police investigation

Bradley William Moss, 38, of 1141 Pitts Ave., Newton, was placed in the Catawba County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond following his arrest. His first appearance in court is scheduled for today.

Late goal lifts South Iredell past Newton-Conover

Down two of its best players and a third playing hurt, Newton-Conover lost a heartbreaking 2-1 conference soccer contest Tuesday to rival South Iredell.

The CVAC loss is the Red Devils’ first in conference play since Oct. 25, 2010 against West Caldwell.

The St. Stephens volleyball team avenged a loss earlier this season with a victory against Watauga on Tuesday 25-23, 22-25, 27-25 and 25-21.

The win by the Lady Indians ties them atop the Northwestern 3A/4A with the Lady Pioneers (11-5, 6-1).

Jenna Boliek led Saint (15-1, 7-1) with 14 kills and 12 digs. Breanna Hall added 12 kills and three blocks, while Marisa Jones had six kills.

Lady Bucs move to 14-0, top Johnson and Wales

The CVCC volleyball team continued its roll so far this season on Tuesday, knocking off Johnson and Wales University in three-straight sets 26-24, 25-16 and 26-24.

Jennifer Beatty led CVCC (14-0, 6-0) with 10 kills, while Leah Watts added seven kills and four aces.

BREAKING: Hickory pastor charged with indecent liberties with a juvenile

A Hickory pastor was arrested Monday and charged with indecent liberties with a child following a police investigation, a Newton Police Department release states.

According to the release, Bradley William Moss, 38, of Newton, was placed in the Catawba County Detention Center with a $100,000 bond. His first appearance in court, the release states, is Wednesday.

City schools over budget for new building

Newton-Conover City Schools are still in the process of developing a budget for a proposed new school building.

Assistant Superintendent David Stegall said the school board is still working on revising its budget and reviewing bids before a final decision is made.

NCHP: Meth found at motorcycle crash

NC Highway Patrol reports drugs and cash were found on the scene of last Sunday’s fatal motorcycle wreck on U.S. 321.

Driver John Franklin, 35, of Claremont, was carrying $1,714 in cash on him when the motorcycle he was driving crashed, NC Highway Patrol Sgt. J. Womack said.

Fred T. Foard notches first NWC win, tops Saint

St. Stephens and Fred T. Foard high schools squared off on the tennis court Monday both trying to pick up their first conference win of the season.

Taking three-of-four singles matches that went to third-set tiebreakers, the Lady Tigers notched their first Northwestern 3A/4A victory of the season, topping the Lady Indians, 5-4.

In a battle of top soccer teams in the Northwestern 3A/4A, Fred T. Foard and St. Stephens played to a draw.

The Tigers and Indians each scored three goals in a 3-3 tie on the soccer field Monday in Newton.

Andrew Bare put the Indians (8-4-1, 3-0-1) up 1-0 early after an assist from Nich Bryant, but Foard's Logan Winstead equalized the contest with an unassisted goal of his own.
