Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover hosted Media Day on Wednesday for the Greater Hickory Classic golf tournament — one month and three days until the event kicks of its 10th anniversary.
Founded in 2003 by Don Beaver and Jim Correll, the tournament continues to be a yearly tradition in Catawba County.
The Newton-Conover volleyball team swept East Burke in three sets on Wednesday 25-16, 25-22 and 25-23.
The Lady Red Devils improve to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the CVAC.

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Bobcats have announced they'll hold their training camp at UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena from Oct. 1-6.
Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins said Wednesday the arena is "an ideal place for our players and coaches to prepare for the coming season."
Felicia Hope Feimster Foster, 51 of Newton died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. The Foster family entrusted the arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.
