Tigers top Knights on soccer field, pick up win No. 8

Off to its best start in recent memory, the Fred T. Foard soccer team passed another early season test on Monday.

Up 1-0 at halftime, the Tigers netted two goals in the second half to pull out the 3-0 win over visiting North Lincoln (6-2-1).

Crawdads fall 4-2 in season finale to Drive

The Hickory Crawdads fell in the final game of the 2012 season, 4-2, against the Greenville Drive, before 6,460 fans at Fluor Field in Greenville on Monday afternoon.

The Crawdads got out to a quick lead with a run against Drive pitcher Jason Garcia in the top of the first frame.

Gary Lee Pope, 64, of Conover died Aug. 30, 2012 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. The Pope family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.
