Late TD, turnover propel N-C to Homecoming win

A touchdown pass from Kevin Cline to Sam Avis with 4:27 left in the third quarter ended up being the game-winning score, helping Newton-Conover pick up a Homecoming victory against East Burke on Friday at Gurley Stadium.

"That was just a physically tough football game," said N-C coach Brint Russell. "I'm proud of our kid's effort."

Vikings hold off elements, Blue Devils in victory

Despite a nearly hour long weather delay, South Iredell continued its dominance in the Catawba Valley 2A on Friday, knocking off another challenger in Maiden at home, 33-10.

The Vikings (7-0, 3-0) took the lead early in the contest with a pair of touchdowns, including a five-yard rushing score from Eythan Kramm and a 63-yard scamper by Michael Fisher.

CVAC ROUND-UP: Wildcats top Bears in OT

Draughn overcame a 13-7 deficit at halftime to come back and win 28-21 in overtime against Bunker Hill in Valdese on Friday.

Adam Estep's third rushing touchdown of the night from one-yard out completed the Wildcats' comeback. Estep rushed for 160 yards in the game for Draughn (4-3, 1-2).

NWC 3A/4A ROUND-UP: Spartans blank Tigers

Pulling ahead 34-0 by halftime, South Caldwell continued its undefeated start to the season with a 55-0 victory in Northwestern 3A/4A play against Fred T. Foard on Friday.

The Spartans (7-0, 3-0) tallied 446 yards of total offense in the contest, including 232 rushing yards by running back Zac Pollard.
