Local school children learn outdoors Tuesday during Environmental Field Days at Newton’s Southside Park.
The two-day event started last Thursday and rounded out the active learning Tuesday, Sept. 25. During the event, fifth graders from across Catawba County learned about environmental awareness from different environmental departments from the county.

Newton police confirmed a local pastor was arrested Monday and charged with indecent liberties with a juvenile following a police investigation
Bradley William Moss, 38, of 1141 Pitts Ave., Newton, was placed in the Catawba County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond following his arrest. His first appearance in court is scheduled for today.
