Entering Tuesday with identical 4-1 conference records, the St. Stephens and Fred T. Foard volleyball teams tried to keep alive hopes for a Northwestern 3A/4A championship.
Tied 1-1, the Lady Indians won the third and fourth sets to come away with the pivotal 3-1 victory over the Lady Tigers in Newton.
The Maiden volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over East Burke on Tuesday 25-23, 25-14 and 25-14.
By virtue of Bandys loss to South Iredell, the Lady Blue Devils (10-3) moved into sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the CVAC standings with a 6-1 conference record.
Government action this week paved the way for another data center in the Hickory Metro region.
Ten prep sports contests from Tuesday were postponed after storms rolled through Catawba County.
