Maiden wins battle of tennis unbeatens, ousts Bandys

When Maiden traveled to Bandys for a battle of unbeaten girls tennis teams in the Catawba Valley 2A on Tuesday, something had to give.

The Lady Blue Devils won 5-of-6 singles matches, coming away with a 7-2 victory against the Lady Trojans in Catawba.

The Newton-Conover soccer team opened up play in the Catawba Valley 2A with a 4-0 shutout against Bunker Hill on Tuesday.

Franklin Wepner paced the Red Devils (3-2-1, 1-0-0) with two goals, while Chandler Johnson and Turner Glynn added one each.

Maiden says “no” more to congested streets and road closes on Halloween.
This year the town is not closing down the street and the two area churches famous for festivities are opting to not participate in the annual event as well.
