Lavell Hall was approved by the Hickory Public Schools board of education Monday night to serve as the interim boys basketball coach at Hickory High School.
It was a special night for both the St. Stephens and Alexander Central high school boys soccer programs on Monday.
The match-up between the Indians and Cougars featured a family coaching affair between father Steve Morgan and his son, Cory.
The Indians, led by Cory, immerged victorious in the game with the 4-0 shut out.
The St. Stephens volleyball team picked up a 3-0 road victory over the Freedom Patriots on Monday.
With the win, the Lady Indians move to 10-1 on the season.
Katelyn Houser led Saint with 13 assists, six kills and five aces. Jenna Boliek, Marisa Jones and Bailey Cloninger added five kills each. Cloninger also made 11 assists.

As Claremont area residents gear up for Bunker Hill High Schoolâ€™s homecoming game, the town is showing support for the big night. To pep up the entire city, Claremont and the high school have teamed up to host a Community Pep Rally.
In August along there were 42 offenses of burglary, 18 simple physical assault offenses and 30 larceny from a motor vehicle offenses. With numbers like that the Catawba County Sheriffs Office seemed to have a busy month of August, however Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid said that even though the numbers may seem high to residents, the statistics show the sheriffâ€™s office has had an average month.
Two men were killed early Sunday morning less than a mile from home after their vehicle hit a tree.
Philip Wayne White, 33, and Reggie Gene Hunsucker, 44, of Vale were traveling home on Cat Square Road in Lincoln County, when the two men ran off the road to the right, overcorrected and then collided with a tree at 2 a.m. Sunday morning said N.C. Highway Trooper T. Washburn.
Reggie G. Hunsucker, 44, of Vale, passed away on Sept. 9, 2012 in Vale from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The Hunsucker family entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home and Cremations in Conover.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Joe Anderson has been named the South Atlantic Conference Football Defensive Player Of The Week, league officials announced Monday.
Anderson, a sophomore defensive back from Lilburn, Ga., led Lenoir-Rhyne with a team-high 10 tackles to go along with two pass break-ups and an interception in the Bears' 20-2 home-opening win over Davidson last Saturday night at Moretz Stadium.
