SPARTANBURG, S.C. — General manager Marty Hurney said the Carolina Panthers are waiting for the results of a physical exam on offensive tackle Jeff Otah before making a decision on the future of the team's former first-round draft pick.
Carolina traded Otah to the New York Jets last week, but the deal was rescinded after Otah failed his physical. He reverted back to the Panthers' roster.
The final free suspects in a six-person theft ring were captured in Conover last week. The duo are suspected to be part of a team of thieves that collected more than $20,000 in property during at least 40 break-ins throughout six counties.
Students and teachers at South Newton Elementary will move to the current Thornton Elementary building at the end of the school year. The move is planned as Newton-Conover City Schools completes a series of school construction and renovations project.

A.J. Allmendinger's failed drug test has cost him his job at Penske Racing.
Team owner Roger Penske released Allmendinger on Wednesday, three weeks after he tested positive for a banned amphetamine.
Team officials said they were disappointed with the test results that left them with no choice.
