As the summer sun beats down on the arena, the horse as well as the rider feel the heat.

Whether the rider is a child with physical challenges or a war veteran, the summer warmth is a good thing. After all, when the sun sets on the summer, Rising Hope Farm’s limited operating season will end.

Increasing patrols

On the way to work and school be prepared to follow traffic laws or pay a fine.

This school year, N.C. Highway Patrol is working with area police departments to help get parents to work and children to school. This means more patrols on area roads near school zones.

Leaving his native Colombia at age 15, Jorge Alfaro promised both his parents that he would make something of his baseball career.

Four years after that promise, the 19-year-old catcher for the Hickory Crawdads is continuing to try and move up the minor league baseball system.

Hornets suffer first loss against Golden Bears, 20-14

Facing their first road test of the season on Saturday, the Catawba County Hornets suffered their first setback of the season, falling to the Richmond County Golden Bears, 20-14.

The Hornets fall to 2-1 in the Central Carolinas Football League, while the Golden Bears improve to 1-2.
