Claremont has a problem that really stinks, and they are hoping a reward will inspire area residents to help solve the issue.

The city has been receiving septic wastewater at its wastewater treatment plants, according to information provided by City Manager Doug Barrick.

Catawba County is beginning development of a plan to provide long-term support to agricultural land in the county that will focus on economic development for agriculture and the recruitment of young farmers.

The public is invited to submit ideas and suggestions online at www.catawbacountync.gov/Planning/Sustainability/ or at a set of public workshops that begin Monday.

Cole McGraw’s 5 RBIs lifts Hickory to next round

Continuing its offensive output this postseason, Hickory Post 48 scored more than 10 runs for the third-straight playoff game, knocking off Kings Mountain at Henkel-Alley Field on Thursday, 12-10.

With the 3-0 series win, Hickory (18-4) advances to the second round of the playoffs, where it meets the Gaston Braves (13-4), who swept Henderson County.

Shorebirds best Crawdads in game two of series

After being one-hit against Hickory on the Fourth of July, the Delmarva Shorebirds returned the favor in game two of the series, handing the 'Dads a 6-4 loss at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday.

The Shorebirds (4-10 in the second half, 32-51 overall) were powered by a two-run fourth inning and three-run sixth frame, overcoming a 4-2 deficit in the game to take the lead for good.
